If you’re just starting out doing permaculture designs, or if you’ve been designing for years, there comes a time when you realise that it just makes perfect sense to go digital.
When you decide to make this transition you might feel overwhelmed by the choices of software and the huge learning curves involved in creating designs to a professional standard.
Hours spent, trying to do something which seems like it should be so simple might leave your confidence & enthusiasm squished and you feeling frustrated, confused and thinking about how life would be so much simpler (yet, much less fulfilling) just doing a boring 9-5.
Luckily, Daniel Halsey has put together an Advanced Permaculture & Digital Design Masterclass for you to learn everything you need to know to create stunning professional standard designs and deepen your ecological expertise.

United Designers Permaculture Design System
Dan has spent over ten years developing a simple, template-based system to digital Permaculture design. Whether you are designing quarter-acre gardens for small homes, transforming an old farm into your sustainable dream, or restoring large-scale ecosystems degraded by mismanagement, the vector-based design process will work for you.
A simple step-by-step checklist approach we can apply to every design—saving time and improving efficiency.
View or hide each element of your design. Review the soil maps, topography, utility lines & existing vegetation at the click of a button!
Easily create high resolution zoom-ins to focus on the key areas that matter most to your current stage of design. Allowing for extra detail.
Produce designs accurately to any scale. From 0.1 acres to 10,000+ hectares, vector software allows you to work at and print out any size design.
A library of Permaculture plants with accurate canopy sizes enables you to easily drag and drop them into position. Make species-specific, function-focused polycultures which can be saved and used again on any of your future projects.
Work with other designers no matter where they are located. Using a common and affordable design software allows you to share your files around the world.

Learn a system that really works
So, you've already made the choice... Becoming a professional permaculture designer takes many years of practice to develop a streamlined process which produces excellent designs, quickly & efficiently. By investing your time & effort to learn the best practices already available, you realise you don't have to reinvent the wheel. The system taught in this course will enable you to free up time to focus on strategy, growing your business and enjoy more time with your family.
"Dan Halsey is a talented instructor and has really helped me develop my design abilities rapidly. I came to him after a year-long Permaculture Design Course, looking to figure out how to digitally convey my permaculture designs.
After trying various cheap or free digital design programs, I was extremely frustrated. Both in appearance and functionality, I was disappointed. The way he has streamlined his workflow and built plant databases to rapidly deploy design was exactly what I needed.
Adobe Illustrator offers a professional look and an ease of use that is unrivalled. Sure, there’s a learning curve with any software program, so I suggest focusing your time and efforts learning Illustrator.
If you’re ready to kick the training wheels off and get serious, this class is where you need to be."

Pearl River Eco Design
"I was already advising and designing regenerative processes within the philosophy of permaculture, before I took Daniel Halsey’s course. But a project in Australia, taught me more than ever how much I still had to learn. I was assessing and implementing the so-called small system designs. And this client asked me for an additional design proposal for her other 6000 hectares of indigenous forest, and I looked at that infinite surface with clammy hands and nodding knees. Large-scale Ecosystem recovery is of a different level and the skills with which you can make small system designs are often not sufficient or feasible for the larger systems. Hence my great desire to look for this deepening with Daniel’s course.
Daniel’s course gave me the tools and the understanding of the processes needed to take on any project, whatever the scale. The required insight to be able to extract and analyse various types of information on a large scale for the relevant location. And then, of course, to process that analysis professionally, and aesthetically, in the entire design and present it to the client in such a way that you can include it in the permaculture principles that underlie it. For me the highest achievable. But above all, it gave me confidence. Daniel has developed a knowledge and a methodology, with The National Capital Plant Database and the Co-op United Designers, that blurs all boundaries and makes the impossible possible - essential when you want to make your passion your career in this field.
We need good ecological design and design expertise to be able to change things on this planet. This only works when as many people as possible can make this type of design. To be able to communicate to decision-makers and continue to work together and share knowledge and work according to a common vision, language, and process. Only then can scale arise."

Mūla-Ecosystems by Design
I’m new to Permaculture, is this the right course for me?
We highly recommend that all course participants have previously taken a Permaculture Design Course. Although this is not a prerequisite, it is strongly advised, and lots of the topics covered may not be clearly understood unless you have a good pre-existing knowledge of Permaculture.
I’m already designing with digital software, how will this course benefit me?
This course is focused on demonstrating and teaching the functions and systems involved in the United Designers design process. You can apply the templates and techniques shared to any software, to the extent of its compatibility.
Do you only use computers to do your Permaculture designs?
At UD we use digital software to represent the design work we do. All of our creative processes are worked out with pencil and paper, and lots of the preparation and planning is worked out through spreadsheets prior to drawing our designs digitally. This process and all the steps will be explained throughout the course.
Why do you use Adobe Illustrator?
Although there are many options for digital design software, we have found that Illustrator offers an intuitive and organized approach that allows us to create designs with ease and efficiency. Daniel and the other team members have spent a long time testing out and evaluating different options and have found illustrator to be the best option to suit our needs as designers.
Are there any free/open source alternatives to illustrator?
There are many free alternative to illustrator available, i.e. Inkscape, Gimp, etc. Although you will be able to produce designs and follow along with the majority of the course using this software, they also have many limiting factors with their functionality and ability to produce results to as high a standard as Illustrator and AutoCad.
I don’t want to pay the monthly fees to Illustrator, are there any other options?
Although Illustrator currently only offers paid subscriptions through their site, you can find lifetime purchase copies of illustrator online. We recommend that all participants have CS6 or above due to the capabilities.
I’m not very good with computers will I be able to take part?
This course is designed with beginners to design software in mind. All course material will start from the basics, however, we would suggest taking an online Adobe Illustrator course (Udemy) to cover the basics and build some confidence prior to your course start date.
I’d like to take part but can’t afford to right now, are there any scholarship opportunities?
Although we feel that this course is appropriately priced for the value of content which is offered, we understand that some potential participants may not be able to afford the amount-in-full in time for the course. We offer a small, limited amount of low-income instalment positions and scholarship opportunities, please fill out this form to apply >>> https://forms.gle/ukUxkVVzms4gw7Jn7
